Unique Moving and Storage

Most horrible experience ever! Don't even know where to begin. Rhonda from downing moving and storage told me that since I had such a small amount of furniture and items and they already had a truck in Columbus, Ohio traveling to Wisconsin, that the amount would be half and the trip would be quick. Truck picked up items on March 9th, 2017. Delivery was to be made on Friday, March 10, 2017. On Monday, March 13th, Rhonda called and said that the truck would deliver the items on Tuesday or Wednesday. I took off work for those 2 days and there was no delivery. I called and Rhonda would not pick up. Another person from unique moving called and said she was the dispatcher for the deliver and that my moving items were still in Columbus and that she did not have a driver. She said that Rhonda never called and said that the truck would deliver on Tuesday or Thursday. She said the downing moving and unique moving were partners. She said that we could have a 3-way call with Rhonda, Mona, and me. I waited 1 hour and the 3-way call never took place. It still has not taken place. Mona said that the 3-way call would get us all on the same page. Finally, I got the phone number of the driver who was going to deliver. Mona called me and told me to communicate with him. His name is Eli. I spoke with him and he told me he was in Pennsylvania and there was no way he could deliver until March 18th or 19th. I then received another call from him and he said that he would be there the next morning which would be March 17th. So I had my roommate call off work and wait for the truck. Eli called again and said that it would be more like 2:00 pm. My boyfriend could have at least worked 1/2 day. Now between the 2 of us, we are out 3 days of work.

Throughout this experience beginning March 9th, 2017, we called numerous times trying to speak with someone to get an idea of when the delivery would happen. We left lots of messages on repeated voicemails. When our contact person changed from Rhonda at downing moving to Mona at unique moving, Mona was very rude and condescending. She would not let me speak. She continued to yell and discredit everything that Rhonda had originally told us. The payment were also extremely bizarre. There were 3 payments made. The first to book the moving company was sent to PayPal. When looking further, the recipient lived in the united kingdom. The second payment the day of pick-up had to be a chef and made out to downing moving. We signed paperwork but received only one sheet receipt for items and payment. Never received a definitive contract before that or after that pick-up day. We were suppose to receive copies of the contract signed via email. This still has never happened. The final payment was made out to unique storage either by postal money order or cash.
We receive the deliver at 3:00 pm on Friday, March 17th, 2017. The driver, Eli, refused to take anything off the truck until he was handed the amount.

Unique Moving and Storage Inc. truly has lived up to its name! My family has endured a horrible state with what we thought was a well known moving company, it wasn't, it was a "Broker". Our son is in the Military and stationed at far west end of our country. On July 7th the Broker booked our pick up of furniture for the 14th or 15th of July, it never happened, but repeated calls only got me false promises of a pickup. Finally, I received a call from Karen of Unique Moving and Storage Inc.

Karen was friendly, caring and professional! I was informed that the movers would be at my home for pick up on the 21st and they showed up at exactly the time I was told they would be here! Two young men, Casey and Alex introduced themselves and the light at the end of my dark tunnel disappeared. Casey assessed what needed to be done, Alex immediately began to cover and tape the furniture as Casey reviewed the paperwork and documentation that needed to be done. I was stunned that these two men were so professional, polite, hard working and efficient. Both Casey and Alex complimented me on how well I had packed and taped my son's belongings, this recognition meant a lot to me since I had done all the packing by myself. Professional packing boxes, bubble wrap and many rolls of packing tape were used in order to save money, the 50" flat screen TV even had a homemade box.

This letter is about the Unique Moving and Storage Inc., from my first contact with Karen and finish with Casey and Alex this was the best experience. I strongly recommend this company based on their business ethics, professionalism, courteous service and they care about Military serving our country. My son, his wife and 2-year-old daughter have had nothing for 3 weeks and as of this date, they were sleeping on floor till his Platoon bought air mattresses for them. So now I know soon they will have their belongings thanks to Unique Moving and Storage Inc.

Casey and Alex, I wish you both could service my son, after waiting a month, I know you guys could erase the bad feelings he feels.

Unique Moving and Storage showed up late causing me to have to change my flight. They were late not one but two days in a row. My belongings were thrown into boxes. virtually everything we owned was damaged. All of our furniture had damage. Boxes were crushed upon arrival. Boxes were upside down and items were damaged. They did not care how bad it was. Even the guys who delivered our things just said you should file a claim for that. We were told to file with movingclaims.net. I do not believe they will do anything of any substance. I will be taking Unique Moving to court after the settlement is offered.

I hired this company to Move me from OH to S. C. in March and store my furniture for one month. I was getting married and moving out of state so I had them deliver the furniture to my finacee's home were we would be living. So I didn't examine the delivery until June after the wedding. Then I saw that my brand new King size Tempur-Pedic mattress was missing, the legs on my cocktail and end tables were gone. My bedroom furniture looked like it came from a scratch and dent sale. Boxes of dishes were broken, because heavy boxes were places on top of boxes marked Fragile. They picked up 40 boxes and deliverd 25. I was told (which I know doesn't count for a hill of beans) that I was automatically covered for $10000.00 for lost and damages. So I signed the waver for full replacement insurance. Now I'm stuck with $.60 per lb. My fault I misread $.60 on the dollar. But that is no excuse for blantant disregard for property placed in good confidence in your care. I also had two beautiful three feet tall bronze giraffe statues that they left at the ware house. They said they would send them the next time a truck was coming this way. ( whenever). So I asked them to take a picture of them and send to me so I would have have proof that they had my property. They did this, but a lot of good that did. Finally last Month Nov. I insisted they send me my giraffees. I even told them I would be in OH 200 miles from them and they could drop them off there, no reply. They told me they would send them UPS, nothing. Last week, Dec I called and they said they shipped them. But they didn't know when they shipped, where and by who they shipped them. So now my giraffees are gone also. If anyone knows how we can get some restitition for malicious treatment of another's property, count me in. I have picture galore. DON'T USE THIS COMPANY THEY ARE HORRIBLE!!

By the time we received delivery, our items had been moved several times from truck to storage and back again! When it was finally delivered, items were broken, things stolen, things lost, things soaking wet (books, etc), tubs were smashed, boxes crushed! I could go on and on!! A $1200 claim was made and they decided we would et a check for $93!! Plus more money was always added to what was originally quoted several times and they always wanted the money up front. And..the truck was too big to deliver so had to rent a smaller truck, thus unloading and loading everything one more time!! We are still finding broken things! We also have a large mirror box of things belonging to someone else! Have tried numerous times to get them to try to find the owner, but no one cares! THERE ARE NO EXAGGERATIONS HERE!

I believe this moving company is unique. It has to be the worst moving company in the country, which makes it unique in my book. Most movers likely could not compete with Unique for the title of worst mover in the world. Unique knows every trick in the book and has no qualms about using them. Although the estimate was approximately $2800 and then increased because I called the booking agent--Plymouth Relocation Services--Unique charged me $9000 for shipping personal items from a 341 square foot condo plus two bicycles and about 10 boxes already packed. Threw everything in one big box, including Kosta Boda vases, jewelry, clothing, shoes, etc. The condo is a rental so all furniture, dishes, and so forth stayed. I indicated to the movers the cost was too high and was told that if I didn't pay, they'd throw the items in the parking lot. I lived in a condo complex and didn't want to deal with the ramifications of my items all on the ground and damaged. And people upset and my having to stay extra days to clean up a mess that likely wasn't going to be cleaned up very easily. I told Unique that I had paid Plymouth Relocation Services for the move. Unique told me they never heard of Plymouth Relocation Services and would dump all my items in the parking lot if I didn't pay them the price they asked. It was midnight and I had to leave in the morning, so I paid the price (should have called the police, if I had had my wits about me). I immediately contacted Unique and Plymouth Relocation the next day and was told there was nothing that could be done. I signed the paperwork, I was told. I told them it was signed under duress after midnight with a truck loaded with my belongings that were threatened to be thrown off the truck. It was a nightmare. And it still is. I have none of my belongings. I called Plymouth Relocation and told them this story and they said there is nothing they can do. And when I told them that Unique did not even follow DOT instructions for filling out moving forms, etc, so a record of what was moved was kept, they told me I shouldn't have signed it. It was an impossible situation with no help coming from anyone who was involved. I eventually stopped payment on the check; called Unique and said I wanted my belongings at the original price quoted by Plymouth Relocation. And Unique told me that they had no obligation to adhere to that price. Every time they felt like it, it seemed as though the added to the price, indicating that Plymouth Relocation didn't estimate correctly. If I were Plymouth Relocation, I would drop the movers from their contractors because Unique spoke about them as though they were idiots. It is a nightmare of the worst proportions! I have no clothes, jewelry, coats, etc. and have no idea where they are. And no idea if I will ever see them again. Moving to a new state with no coats, clothes, books, papers, cosmetics, and documents needed to conduct business and so forth is a big burden. To have to buy new clothes because the mover will not deliver is outrageous. I read some reviews about Unique and see they delivered some items to people. In fact when I called Unique, the person to whom I spoke didn't know whether Unique had my items. It continues to be a nightmare as I spend more time and money buying clothing I have already but to which I cannot get access. I cannot even make a claim because they say to me they don't have my items so how can they give them to me. None of it makes sense. Like another reviewer said, "We don't know where our things are." Neither do I.

Never use this company. They are unprofessional and could care a less about how they handle your stuff. I had so many items broken and I filed a claim three months ago. No one will return your call. Been trying to contact Karen in claims dept by calling and email and she never gets back to me. I don't under stand how they can stay in business. with such horrible service. I am still waiting to get reimbursed. I did file with the BBB. We can't let this company get away with this. I will never get back the things I lost.

I hired North American Relocation company to help with a recent move. I explained I had a tight turnaround for pickup and delivery, which they guaranteed their team to accommodate. They reached out to their local ohio vendor 'Unique Moving & Storage' to confirm they could accommodate my schedule. They were suppose to pickup Monday, January 30th between 4pm-8pm. They didn't show up until Tuesday, January 31st at 10:30am, then charged me an extra $850 then North American's original quote. Since they were late picking up my things, I had to take an additional day off work (loss of compensation).

They were putting my things in storage for a few weeks in columbus until my apartment was ready to move in. I called them Tuesday, Feb 7th at 9:30am to let them know that I would be ready to move in Friday evening the 10th or anytime the 11th. They said they would let dispatch know to schedule. I called multiple times to confirm and was told the driver would be calling me on the weekend to drop off, but it could be saturday or sunday. I heard nothing saturday, sunday, and now Monday. I called North American Relocation for help, they notified 'unique moving & storage' of the delivery issue. Unique moving called me this AM to tell me the same thing they've been saying all last week, the driver should be on his way soon and they'll call me when the stuff is on the truck. Now, they're saying to call them Wednesday, if I don't hear from them. Currently, me and my 65 year old mother are sleeping on the floor of my very empty apartment and I honestly don't know if I'll ever see my stuff damaged or undamaged again. They are saying they have 21 days to get me my stuff and I don't understand how a company can do business like this. They are literally holding my things hostage, causing emotional and financial burden to me. I'm looking into legal counsel now for any help. This company should be shut down.

AAA contracted these guys so I thought they couldn't be that bad. Unfortunatly, I was wrong. They charged double the estimated price. Our stuff was left at a warehouse in Ohio until about 5 days before the delivery date. Most of our breakable stuff was broken. The day they tried to deliver they tried to drive their 18 wheeler through residential back roads to get to the location (I live right off an arterial road). They got stuck on a traffic circle and got a ticket so I had to pay for a shuttle the next day. Then they tried to get a tip out of me. I couldn't get any expediency from customer service even as the deadline approached. By far the worst company I've ever dealt with in any field. Also a giant spider stowed away with the stuff (like baseball size spider). I kept seeing it for about three weeks after our stuff was delivered.

I am in a similar situation. USA Moving Group booked the move for me with Unique Moving and Storage. My furniture was finally picked up at 6 PM the day before I flew out and once my furniture was on the truck, the cost went up $700. I was promised delivery in 14-21 days and it is getting real close to the 21 days.  They can't seem to find the driver of the truck with my furniture at this point. They did not notify me when the furniture was being picked up in Miami so I could get insurance.  This has been one huge fiasco and wondering if I need to call the police and file a missing furniture report? Any advice? .

Recently moved across the country using Unique Moving and Storage (Booked through Alliance Moving Services) and the experience has been/is still awful. My move was more than three months ago, I only just recently got my things (after many weeks of thinking it had all been lost) and the company has over-charged me hundreds of dollars. Approached the BBB about the company with no luck. Unique Movers wouldn't speak to me through phone or email and ignored the BBB's attempts to reach out to them as well. I can't even tell you how much I regret using this company. Don't put yourself in the same situation that I did.

I went through AAA Moving and storage to move my belongings from Ohio to Arizona. They used Unique Moving and Storage to get the job done. My belongings were picked up in Ohio on time and with very helpful and friendly gentlemen. I told them I would not be in Arizona till the 15th of August. Unique called to deliver on the 11th. Neither myself or the money to pay them was there yet. I believe they delivered on the 19th of August. A lot of my boxes were crushed, a couple of them fell out of the truck to the ground ( marked fragile-glass), three of the boxes were ripped open with broken glass falling out,some of the crushed boxes I looked in and found broken glass and broken plastic dishes, my bike had a bag on the back to carry the chain and a reflective vest which was unzipped and completely empty. I am missing a suitcase full of clothes, a 6ft. aluminum ladder, and 12 metal posts that hold my shelf unit together. I have to build my house yet, so everything is in storage and I haven't had a chance to look into every box yet. I hate to think what I might find. While Unique was delivering my belongings they also tried to deliver a large picture with frame, a rifle in a carrying case, a glass top patio table, a large box ( contents unknown) and a very large hose carrier with at least 4 or more hoses wrapped around it. I did end up with a thin plastic box with odds and ends in it and a plastic box full of men's clothes that aren't mine. I tried to contact Unique Moving and Storage twice by email, but they never responded. I then sent an email to AAA Moving and Storage and told them my story, and the next day I received an email from Unique Moving and Storage. They informed me that they were looking for my lost items. Two weeks later I received another email saying that they were still looking and would send someone out to pick up the two items that weren't mine. That was 4 weeks ago and I haven't heard a word or seen anyone from Unique, so I've decided to write this, so it might help someone else to choose a more reliable moving company. I would never use this company again!

This is the WORST MOVING COMPANY EVER. Many broken items, ruined the top of my antique sewing machine, but the biggest and most horrible thing is they lost my big box of all my clothes, shoes and purses, plus a box of kitchen items. How can I ever replace these clothes items, called several times, customer service is non-existent, never called back, I had to keep trying to reach someone. They said the boxes were checked off as they were put in the new truck, obviously not or my clothes would be here. Then they said maybe as they have a big warehouse the boxes were misplaced. Aren't they suppose to be in one place together, snotty answer "usually". They never offered full replacement insurance, had it crossed off, as I later learned and the fellow that picked up my items said sign here. They cover .60 per lb free, I thought it was .60 on the dollar. Would have certainly taken out full insurance. Very shady company and I am sadden that they are allowed to operate and cause such grief. Shame!!

This company is horrible. They have made my move a distaster. They do not communicate , half my stuff is broken , and they are scum. They don't even live up to what they say . They double quote on what they say . My moved started at 2500 and is now up to 4086. Patty, is rude and doesn't care about the Customer What the movers say and what is being done is two different things . I now sit in an apartment with nothing because they couldn't communicate . My truck was suppose to be hear today and now it's unknown. I hate this company !!

Do NOT use this company. I was told one thing by the broker - I thought I was using National Moving. Evidently National Moving contracts out the moves to people who just don't care. Pickup had to be delayed by a day. During interview with broker, I was told my furniture would be put on a truck in Missouri and brought directly to me in Florida. Delivery would be 3 -5 days. At pickup they added $600+ to the cost. Told me they would move all of it, or none of it. I was in Florida with no furniture, no bed, nothing waiting for them. Communicating with these people are impossible. No one told me they put my furniture on a truck with others, delaying delivery. No one told me when my furniture would be delivered until I called them. I was given the drivers telephone number. He told me "who do you think you are? Someone special? This is not FedEx"

My furniture arrived finally. Some broken (a crystal lamp given to me by my parents), one chair to the dining room set was broken. I will NEVER USE Them again.

WORST MOVING COMPANY. They were contracted by Assurance van line services, which is not a good company either. They show up and add $400 to our quote we got from Assurance and load everything alright. Then we get to where we are moving and our stuff doesn't show up until 7 days after we told them we needed it, so a full week with nothing. Our things had gotten moved onto a semi truck and when they opened the doors it looked like everything had just been thrown in the trailer boxes falling out the whole nine yards it was horrible. Then the damages came, bookcase completely destroyed my mountain bike gearing was completely destroyed plates and dishes broken boxes torn open, my vacuum was destroyed the compartment that holds the dirt had a huge hole in it, a motorcycle we had them move and a big dent and scratches all over the fender and that's just the start. ON TOP OF THAT ONE OF THE MOVERS ASKED IF WE WANTED TO SMOKE WEED WITH HIM AFTERWARDS!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!! WORST MOVERS EVER.

I originally contacted Assurance Vanlines who contracted to Unique Movers. The loaders Shane and Alex were great. The unloaders, not so much. Although the belongings were unharmed, a couple of my totes were damaged. They called the same day of delivery, not the day before, as he told me he would. They knew they were coming to a military base and had to have ID. The driver had ID, but his helper "lost his wallet a couple days ago". I think that knowing he was going to have to unload by himself, he stopped somewhere to pick up a couple of other helpers, because of this he delivered 3 1/2 hrs later than he originally told me. He never told me he was getting other help. If he had I would understand his lateness. He could only use 1 helper because the other failed the background check. Mona, in "Quality Assurance" called me the next day to see how the move went. I think she already knew how it went, because my daughter called and gave them an earful via voicemail. Mona,was the rudest person ever. When I explained what had happened, she starts giving me excuses for the driver. Shane, at the time of pick up, asked if there was a time limit cut off, I told him 6PM. It is not stated anywhere on the contract that I could see. So she puts it on me as my fault! I, of course start to raise my voice and she say's "you're getting aggressive" and says she is going to terminate the call. She said she was going to forward my complaint to a supervisor, I told her fine, I would love to talk to someone else. Of course NO ONE has followed up. I will never do business with a contracted company again.

Most unprofessional moving experience of my life. Not only were they very rude in my communication with them, they have pretty much ignored all requests to resolve my issue. They broke multiple items and I have tried dozens of times to get this resolved. They asked me to sign a release of liability once we agreed to an offer amount (after months of trying to get this resolved) and for over a year now, I have not seen payment. Beware of the $0.60 per pound per article, which although is industry standard, their approach is very rude and unprofessional.($1,500 in damaged items, $64.00 offer from company) Please beware of this company, there are too many "good" moving companies out there that will take much better care of their customers than Unique Moving & Storage does. STAY AWAY!

This is the worst company ever I told them not to deliver the furniture when they called me in the morning then at 10pm that night they called and asked if the could drop the furniture off and I was out of town by then. Told them you were not suppose to come according to the phone call and they said they will put the furniture in storage and charge me for it. Karen it the worst customer servie person ever she never let you talk and the owner is a even worst.
DO NOT USE THEM I AM TELLING YOU.

I am beyond frustrated with Unique Van Lines. I contracted with Assurance Van Lines who sub-contacted to Unique to move things from mom's house in Ohio to Houston. Contract states "delivery may take 1-21 business days (1001-1500 miles, 2-8 days). It'll be 30-days 9/11.

I had to call Assurance (8/8) to find out the pickup, Karin (Unique) called saying pickup was scheduled for 8/10. THEY DID NOT PICK UP UNTIL 8/11. "The truck broke in Columbus and was waiting for a part". It appears this standard response when they can't make the scheduled pickup date. I had to have my DIL meet the driver on 8/11 because I was at the airport to return to Houston. Luckily, she had taken the day off to handle back to school things; otherwise, I would not have anyone to meet the driver (both my children work).

Stress level elevated, when the driver damaged the gutters while backing in the driveway. When I emailed Assurance pictures to file a claim, I was told they forwarded my email to Unique and someone would contact me. (BTW, all the phone numbers on Unique's website do not work.) I did, however, get a number from the email from Maria Lopez (Unique claims) giving me a number to Anthem Claims. Anthem only handles contents damage not property damage by the truck. I have been unsuccessful reaching Maria Lopez by phone. I've left several messages, no return call or it goes directly into voice mail. I've also been unsuccessful reaching a manager twice.

David called about a 1-1/2 weeks after I got home (approx. 8/22) asking when I could take delivery. I told him 8/19 as had indicated on a form I completed and returned to them. He said he was working on the delivery schedule and would call back. It is now 9/9, still no ETA delivery call. Since speaking with him, I've called him twice, leaving a messages. On 9/11 will be 30 days since pick up. I've called Assurance Van Lines 3 time, twice no delivery date;. third call (9/6) was told no one answered, it was close to 5:00 and they had probably left. Assurance CS rep said I needed to wait for them call me with a date (not good enough); OR call them (Assurance) back in the morning. Strange how no one answers when I call.

The only time spoke with David, I asked if my belongings are sitting in a storage warehouse, YES. I hope its some where in Ohio and not Florida (waiting for Hurricane Irma). Loading/unloading/reloading is a good way for items to go missing or get damaged. I have several pieces of antique furniture and 5 - 45 gal plastic tubs with breakables, 2 of which have irreplaceable antique glass and an antique kerosene chandelier. I bubble wrapped everything, I just hope it's good enough and the tubs aren't dropped or crushed.

Bottom line, this is the worst company ever and their customer service is reprehensible. 2 questions asked for this complaint were answered best I could - Accuracy of Estimated - delivery has not been made; and, Packing Service - I packed everything, wasn't present when loaded.

I moved from Ohio to South Carolina and mistakenly used a broker who ultimately contracted Unique moving and storage to do the move. It took two weeks for my belongings to make it down to my new home while I had to go out and purchase clothing, air mattress, & essentials.. most of my kitchen plates, bowls, and cups ended up broken, my kitchen table was banged up pretty good, 2 kitchen chairs were broken, coffee table was broken and much more. My gaming system and games never made it which I should have known not to even pack it with my items, my mistake.. they must not have thought I tipped enough while they trashed my condo with empty tape rolls and plastic.. do yourself a favor and steer clear from these [EDIT]!

WOW! After reading the other reviews, I feel foolish for having not looked at this website before hiring them..but then again, I used Assurance Movers who, without ever acknowledging the fact that they were going to sub contract the goods to Unique!! WHAT A MISTAKE!!

I spent over $17,000 moving goods from Orlando and Atlanta to Cincinnati and ended up with over $12,000 worth of damage and some of the items were irreplaceable!! Some of antiques and objects had been with me for over 35 years and are no longer a part of my life. Thanks to Unique!!

Last year I moved home from China with Asian Tigers and in a full 40' container, I had no damage. With Assurance and Unique from one city in the US to another US city, the damage was horrible.

What a sad welcome home for me!!
